Welcome to Mellons Bay School
Kia ora and haere mai- welcome to Mellons Bay School!
It is an absolute privilege to serve as the Principal of Mellons Bay School, and I am excited to be part of a community that values learning, growth, and connection. At Mellons Bay School, we are committed to providing a rich and engaging education that nurtures curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning in every child.
Through the ‘Mellons Bay Way’ students are encouraged to display our values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility. We expect all students to strive for excellence, embrace challenges, and develop the skills they need to navigate our changing world . We take pride in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential.
Mellons Bay School was opened in 1960 and is very much at the heart of the Howick community, with many families having a number of generations pass through the school. Partnerships with our families and the wider community are at the heart of our success. We believe that when schools and families work together, children thrive. We welcome your involvement and look forward to building strong relationships to support our students on their learning journey.
I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our vibrant school community. Whether you are a current family, a prospective parent, or a community member, we warmly welcome you to Mellons Bay School. Please feel free to reach out, visit, and be a part of our exciting journey.

Responding to our changing world
The staff of the school are committed to providing a wide range of experiences in and out of the classroom.
The school celebrates its bicultural/multicultural nature through activities such as kapa haka groups, assemblies and merit cups.
In primary years literacy and numeracy form the main focus for learning with resources maintained to a high standard.
Staff participate in professional development to ensure they stay up-to-date with research while students are encouraged to become independent, enthusiastic learners.
Boost their creative confidence
Each creative activity prompt is an opportunity for your child to take on a new challenge. Hands-on learning keeps your child engaged and develops their creative problem-solving skills.
Working together is an important part of engaging in active learning
By helping students become confident and independent learners, they will be able to collaborate and work together in a positive environment. This encourages team cooperation and the growth of strong relationships, all while furthering their education.
